Guga Reunites With Former Coach Larri Passos

Three-time Roland Garros champion Gustavo Kuerten announced that he is reuniting a successful partnership with former coach Larri Passos.
"We are starting our journey again, this long time partnership. I felt the need to have the best option to get me back to the top level and the person who knows me better, whom I trust the most and who always made me play tennis happily is Larri," Kuerten said.
Guga, who worked with Larri for 15 years, from 1989 to 2005, has played only in two events this season: at Costa do Sauipe and the Davis Cup doubles rubber against Sweden.
"For me it is a very happy moment to be back with Larri. I am back with him because I want to overcome myself," Kuerten said. "I always went after my goals and I learnt it from Larri. (I am) obstinate and this means the moment of great fight and effort I am going through.”
For the past 18 months Guga, who has claimed 20 ATP titles including the circuit-ending Tennis Masters Cup Lisbon in 2000, worked with former ATP player Hernan Gumy.
"It was good working with Hernan. He was important for me at that time, but I was most of the time injured and I felt the need to change, to get my motivation back," he said.
Despite two hip surgeries, Guga, who hasn’t set a date to get back in the circuit, doesn’t have any plans to retire from tennis. “My utmost goal is to play the way I used to, to practice the way I used to and get ready go to the tour and face the top players. I have not set a date. My body will let me know when I am ready. I believe and I have the right to believe in this inner force that there is inside of me. We are all together here trying to find a way to have this result, to be successful the same way as before. I have to be calm, patient and believe in our work," he said.
